Why Motor Movers Demand High Power
Caravan motor movers use heavy-duty electric motors to push thousands of kilograms of dead weight, often up steep driveways or across wet grass. This requires massive amounts of immediate torque.
To generate that torque, the motors draw a significant electrical current (amperage) from your 12v leisure battery. If your battery capacity is too low, the voltage will drop rapidly under load. This causes our control boards to safely shut down to protect the electronics, leaving you stuck halfway onto your pitch.
85Ah vs. 100Ah: Which is Right for You?
The “Ah” rating on a battery stands for Amp-hours, which essentially measures the capacity of the battery’s “fuel tank.”
If you own a standard single-axle caravan and use our Powrtouch Freedom or single-axle Powrtouch Evolution, a healthy, fully charged 85Ah leisure battery is perfectly sufficient for typical pitching and parking.
However, if you own a heavy twin-axle caravan, utilize our All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, or regularly tackle steep 1-in-4 inclines, you are demanding more power. Lead-Acid, AGM, or Lithium?

- Standard Lead-Acid/AGM: These are cost-effective and perfectly capable of running our movers, provided they are kept properly charged. However, they are heavy (around 25kg) and their voltage drops as they discharge.
- Lithium (LiFePO4): Lithium leisure batteries are a premium upgrade. They are incredibly lightweight (around 10kg) and deliver a consistent, flat voltage until they are almost entirely empty. This makes them exceptional for high-draw appliances like our Powrtouch Evolution.

Will a motor mover drain my caravan battery? Yes, motor movers draw high current, but only for the few minutes they are in use. A healthy, fully charged 85Ah battery can comfortably manoeuvre a caravan for 20-30 minutes and still have plenty of capacity left for your 12v habitation systems.
Can I run a motor mover on a completely flat battery? No. If your leisure battery drops below approximately 10.5v, our Powrtouch control unit will intentionally cut out to prevent damage to the electronics and your battery cells. Always charge your battery before travelling.
